Introducing Norfolk artist and textile designer Lottie Day + "Feather & Egg napkins"

Lottie Day's 'Feather and egg napkins'

I recently came across Norfolk artist Lottie Day - a textile designer who produces a range of hand-printed, hand-made textile products for the home, the garden or the beach. I love the natural simplicity of her work and thought you might too. Lottie’s unique illustrations are inspired by the beautiful Norfolk countryside and feature original line drawings of allotment produce, wild hares and sea creatures ... you can see why I love her work can't you? :-)

I fell in love with these 'Feather & Egg' illustrations, which were screen-printed by hand in Norwich as part of the ‘Norfolk Wildlife’ collection -  I think they're just lovely and would make a beautiful birthday, christmas or wedding gift.  The original illustrations are screen-printed onto premium 100% cotton fabric, then arranged and presented into a hand-printed cardboard box (complete with cute label and string).

I absolutely love handmade, nature-inspired goods and I'd much prefer to give items like these as gifts rather than the cheap, mass-made goods that line our shelves. Every element of Lottie's work is made in the UK and every unique item is produced by Lottie in her Norwich workshop. If you'd like to see how Lottie prints her work pop along to her website tutorial here. Lottie's workshop is based in the beautiful Assembly House, a Georgian mansion in the centre of Norwich where she also runs her own gallery and shop! Lucky girl - I'd never get any work done if I worked in such a place, I'd be swanning around daydreaming about Mr Darcy ...

Working in her Norwich studio, Lottie screen-prints her designs onto canvas, which is adapted into a range of original products such as lampshades, napkins, and her incredible double deck chairs. Have a browse through her products; the hand-sewn canvas bags feature unique handles inspired by recycled leather belts, sourced from local charity shops and car boot sales. My personal faves are the feather and egg shopper, the allotment deckchair and the lovely lampshades.  I think I need to start writing my Christmas list!

  1. This is lovely Jodie and you're right, so much better than buying the mass produced stuff. I love the vegetable ones. I've never thought to order Christmas presents from personal craft blogs - no idea why; only just realised there are all these lovely blogs out there. Lottie's designs are beautifully 'spare', not too busy which makes the work really stand out in a classy way - perfect for country type houses. Thanks for this link :)
